3 Steps to Happy, Healthy Skin

So you have skin issues, eh?

Follow the 3 steps below to find your personal blueprint for healthy, happy skin.

Step #1) Minimize the toxins coming in

If you are here at the FATFACE site, I am guessing that you have already taken care of step #1.

The liver filters the blood of anything potentially harmful to the body such as chemicals, toxins, and pesticides. Skincare products, especially for women, can be a large source of daily chemicals entering the bloodstream. Switching to a non-toxic skincare regimen is the first step to relieving skin problems.

What does toxic burden have to do with the skin?

Spreading chemicals on our skin and consuming them in our food daily puts a large burden on your liver. Once the detoxification channels are overworked, the toxins and chemicals may eventually exit through the skin.

After the liver has done its job, the waste is sent to either the colon or the kidneys. The colon gets rid of fat-soluble molecules and the kidneys process water-soluble molecules. When the colon is clogged, the overflow departs through the oil ducts in the skin. When the kidneys cannot handle the burden properly, the waste will exit the skin through the sweat glands instead.

Hives, rashes, eczema, and acne that appear on the skin are a sign that we need to clean up our detoxification pathways. The state of your skin reflects what is going on inside, at a deeper level.

Step #2) Support detoxification

If we support the liver and detoxification pathways to help relieve the toxic load, we may be able to relieve the skin as well.

You can support your detoxification pathways in the following ways: Daily exercise or sweating, rebounding or dry skin brushing to move the lymph fluid, and tongue scraping. Try to consume foods that support the liver such as warm lemon water in the morning, 3 servings of greens per day, and dandelion root tea.

Step #3) Dig deeper

If your skin is a mess and you know why, (you are eating a daily cheese pizza, not exercising, and swimming in chemical products) then start with the basics. Clean water, clean food, and clean products.

But, if you feel like you have a very healthy diet, take care of yourself, and try your hardest to live a nontoxic life, you might need to dig a little deeper.

A few possibilities:

Intestinal permeability and food sensitivities.

I have watched bad acne as well as eczema clear up immediately after finding and removing the food that my client was sensitive to. As our GI tract becomes more permeable or leaky, undigested food particles and toxins are able to fit through the pores and enter the blood stream. Each time a food enters the bloodstream, the body calls on the immune system to attack the food particle as if it were an invader. As different food particles escape into the blood stream, we become sensitive to more and more foods over time. Along with causing inflammation each time we eat the foods we are sensitive to, the liver is also burdened with the job of cleaning the particles out of the blood.

Pathogens – bacteria, fungus, parasites.

For a client with intestinal permeability we like to make sure bacteria, fungus, and parasites haven’t made their way through the GI tract as well. Once those lovely bugs have set up shop inside of you, the by-products of these organisms require filtration by the liver. This is something to consider when dealing with very stubborn skin problems.

Hormonal imbalance and thyroid health.

When all else fails, blame the hormones. J Balanced hormones and adequate thyroid function are also players in skin health. We use functional lab work to look at estrogen, testosterone, DHEA, progesterone, melatonin, and cortisol levels. This provides a good snapshot of what is going on inside the body. If there is major imbalance at this level your skin may continue to suffer.

Are you ready to dig deeper?

Start with our free training, coming soon. Click on the image to be notified when it’s ready. After the free training we are offering a group program to discover your food sensitivities and run an adrenal/hormonal lab kit, that you will learn how to read yourself (at half the cost of working one-on-one with a practitioner).

Megan Rand is the founder of Ginger Newtrition & is a Certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® practitioner. She uses functional lab work to understand underlying imbalances. She likes to consider herself a health detective and functional lab work is the key tool in her detective kit. Instead of chasing symptoms, she searches for the root cause. Looking at function of the hormonal, digestive, and detoxification systems provides clues as to how we can support these pillars of health and help restore full function.
